The CW is going into the Jones family business.
The younger-skewing network has handed out a script order to Ladyballs (formerly known as The Revengers), an hourlong dramedy from Rashida Jones and her older sister, Kidada Jones, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
The project, which hails from Warner Bros. Television, where the Parks and Recreation star is under a two-year pod deal, revolves around two twenty-something estranged friends in search of love in New York who are reunited after learning that they’ve been dating the same guy. When their plot to humiliate the two-timer goes viral, they realize the “payback” business is a lucrative one and set up a clandestine business to continue bringing down the hand of justice for those who have been wronged.
Jones and her Celeste & Jesse Forever writing/producing partner Will McCormack will executive produce alongside Allegiance Theater’s Daniel Dubiecki (Prep School Confidential). Prep School Confidential author Kara Taylor will pen the script and co-executive produce the dramedy, which also hails from Jones’ Le Train Train banner. Kidada Jones will produce, marking a first for the model/actress/fashion designer.
The dramedy marks Rashida Jones and McCormack’s second sale so far this development season. The pair also are developing Stuck, a comedy with Parks and Recreation writer Alexandra Rushfield, that landed at Fox with a put-pilot commitment.
Parks and Rec star Jones will exit the NBC comedy following its first 13 episodes of the upcoming sixth season and will shift her focus from acting to producing. Neither of the Jones sisters are currently attached to appear on screen in The CW vehicle.
Rashida Jones is repped by UTA, Brillstein Entertainment Partners and Schreck Rose. McCormack is with UTA and Loeb & Loeb.
